Wedding of Sarah and Scott 2007
By John Orr
I'm not sure what hopes I'd had for the wedding of my daughter Sarah, other than that I hoped she would find a great guy
and not marry him until she was really ready and sure, and both of those things have come true.
Scott Dussault is a great guy, and Sarah is ready.
So, that bit of concern is taken care of ... and as far as the ceremony itself ... all I can say is ... the entire
event was completely delightful, like living inside of a fountain of happiness, and I couldn't be happier for my
precious daughter and her great guy.
Personally, I had a blast at the wedding, and so did everyone else, as far as I can tell!
Sarah and Scott, of course, had been working for months on the wedding, but for me it was pretty easy. All I had to do
was get my band booked to play at the reception, get Riley and me fitted for tuxedoes and watch Maria and Yasemin go through
all the stuff they went through finding the right clothes, etc.
Maria, Yasemin and Riley and I arrived on Friday evening in Napa, late, for the wedding rehearsal. Step-mom of the bride Maria, bridesmaid Yas,
ringbearer Riley and father-of-the-bride me were ordered around by General Sarah R. Orr, along with all the
other troops she had marshalled.
It was a trip for me to see so many of Sarah's other family -- her mom Joanne and stepdad Paul, her sister Mariam and brothers
Matthew and Sam, her grandparents Will and Juanita, and her uncles, aunts and cousins. I love them people, but it had been many, many
years since I'd seen most of them ... and a few I don't believe I had ever seen in person.
And there was Sarah, in full newspaper photo editor mode, taking charge, getting everyone to line up in the right place, to
understand what they would have to do.
And in the middle of that, here came Will, her wonderful grandfather, on the walker he's had to use since a stroke a while back.
Will is one of the most loving, forgiving men I've ever known, a man of grace and faith. And a fairly frustrated guy these days,
because he hasn't been able to talk clearly since his stroke. Words come out, but they don't really make sense. But the look in his eyes,
and the warmth of his hugs and the way he grasped my hands when he saw me, communicated all that needed to be said.
And so there he was, breaking into Sarah's rehearsal, to give her a big hug in the middle of all the busy-ness. An important hug, because, I can tell you,
Sarah was very worried that Will and Juanita might not be able to be at the wedding -- she was overjoyed to have them both there.
It was a beautiful and touching moment. I am so pleased that Sarah's friend Lexey Swall-Bobay was there to capture a photograph of the moment.
Speaking of photographs ... most of the photos here are ones Maria, Yasemin or I made. But a few are from some
of the many other photographers who were at the wedding, including Lexey and the official wedding shooter, John Stubler.
Other people, including Sarah, have some other web sites with stuff from the wedding. Here are some links:
-- DO NOT MISS Sarah and Scott's MySpace site for the wedding at www.myspace.com/ssduso
-- Most excellent wedding photographer John Stubler has a site at www.myspace.com/johnstubler
-- Buy actual prints from John Stubler at the proof site.
-- Very impressive black and white photos by Paul Myers on his site, www.damikato.com/phpslideshow.php?directory=dussaults.
-- Father of the Bride Blues Band has a site with some of the wedding songs at www.myspace.com/boxofdox
Speaking of songs, here are MP3s of some of the songs played by Dr Gone & Serious Condition during the reception, with
and without Dr Gone, and with and without Melinda Rios-Foley. Special thanks to bass player Ken Mensing, who made the recordings. Thanks also to lead guitarist Tony Lacy-Thompson, mouth-harp and pedal-steel player Joe Hartnett and drummer Robert Lacy-Thompson, and of course to Melinda Rios-Foley.
